Mullein is key food for some pretty little moths and butterflies and other insects - important pollinators and other beneficial insects - so I always let some grow. I just cut the stalk before it goes...

According to Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verbascum - some cultivars of this plant are grown deliberately in gardens because they flower for a long period and are good in dry conditions....

If it's the same mullein I'm thinking it is, people living here a couple hundred years ago would be telling her, "Are you nuts? That's a toilet paper tree!" if she were thinking of getting rid of it.

One common name in England is Aaron's Rod. A group arrived in my Mum's gravel path last year...grew to 8 feet...we let them be as they were magnificent, but sadly no offspring this year. The long wet...
